Mexican New Year by Josselyn

                                                MEXICAN NEW YEAR


This is the time when Mexican families celebrate the start of a New Year in Gregorian calendar.

It takes place the 11th or the 12th of March and there are lots of different events, such as, fireworks display, live concerts, colourful parades, and much happiness. The Mexican hold The New Year with family and friends, but it´s not necessary to do it at home. The Government organizes big festivals and many people go there. It is usual to have family gatherings, and everybody bring something to eat in this night.
There are also a lot of superstitions around this celebration :
- When the countdown starts, it is common    to eat twelve grapes, that are like twelve          wishes.
- Also, it is usual to throw lentils around the    door, to bring plenitude.
- The Mexican sweep their houses to keep  away bad spirits, the same, that in The Chinese New Year celebration.
- On New Year´s Eve The Mexican light the acote candles, and try to wear red        clothes, to bring love, or yellow clothes, to bring money.
- In some parts of Mexico, people burn a straw dummy, to have good luck for the  following year.
In the past, an ancient civilization were in Mexico, The Mayas. They had another reference to make his calendar, so their New Year is in a different date. The Mayas made a sacrifice to thank their gods for the coming year.

Chinese and Ecuatorian New Year by Xavier Andres

 

The New Year is very diferent from the Chinese New Year. First, the celebration lasts only on 31 of december. One or two months before they make statues of card board. Some people make statues of 30 centimeters and other make huge statues of five meters. It´s amazing. These statues are called "Año viejo". They celebrate the New Year  within her family. Some think yellow, red  and blue are colors of good luck, so people wear clothes  of these colors.

The food is delicious. The Ecuatorian  families cook roast turkey with potatoes but the turkey is expensive, so many people cook roast chicken or roast pork. They also make hot chocolate and salad for side plates.
Also they visit their relatives and they have fun.

Children are very lucky because they get many presents such as : Toys, clothes and money. the firework display starts at 12 o`clock. They also throw firecrackers and burn  the statue "año viejo" because they believe  that burning keep away  the bad spirits  of the old year. So families hug and start to eat  the food.

New Year Celebrations in Ukraine

 I really really like celebrating New Year with family.

In my house we celebrate the  New Year's Day three times, because we have New Year's in Russia, Ukraine and New Year in Spain.  

In my family we prepare Ukranian and Spanish food. First, we celebrate the Russian New Year and one hour later the New Year of  Ukraine. In Ukraine there is a tradition: when the clock strikes 12 times, we write on a piece of paper our desires and lights and throw in Bakal and then we have a drink, so our desires will come true. The food I like the most is potato salad.  

After celebrating the New Year in Spain, I  go out with my friends to enjoy . We leave with our customes and we always go to a disco. Then all go to my friends' house and we watch movies there. 

So I really like in New Year.
