An accident at Christmas, by Cristian Martinez

It was 10 pm .I was in the car wich my dad and my mother.

My dad was driving but he was falling asleep and we had to stop in the service area, but my mother refused, because she wanted to get home as soon as possible to spend the New Year with our family.

We had short rest, but soon my mother was sleeping and she said nothing. My father was asleep too and lost control of the car, the vehicle went off the road and my mother flew out of the car.

My father had burnt his neck with belt. I had a slight cut on finger and my mother twisted neck.

It was the start of an accidental Christmas, but in the end we were lucky to be alive.

Osasuna-Granada C.F., the lottery of relegation

Good afternoon, dear Osasunists!
Granada and Osasuna are playing the last game of this year 2012 this evening at the old El Sadar stadium with a common aim: to finish out of the relegation posts.

The visits that Granada C.F. did at the stadium of Osasuna ended with a victory of the locals: seven all together. Besides, the Andalusiants are five consecutive games without winning and they didn't score a goal either. In all the season games played away from Los Carmenes stadium, Granada C.F. lost six games and only won against Mallorca and Betis.

There is an old Spanish saying for the weak situation of a coach in a club : comerse el turrón en el banquillo ( that means the coach will be leading the team after Christmas ). Anquela, the coach at Granada's bench, will lead the team after New Year's Day in 2013, but if results go even worse after winter holidays, his support will decrease at the club in Granada.

Anquela can't use the injured goalkeeper Toño Rodriguez, and that situation will produce the reencounter of a former Osasuna player, Roberto, with his ex-supporters at the south goal: Indar Gorri's supporters. Moisés Hurtado and Fran Rico are also injured, and Yacine Brahimi, Manolo Lucena, Darwin Machis and  Borja Gomez stays in Granada for Anquela's decision.

Osasuna, on the other hand, want to forget about last weekend's referee's decision that took two points out of their hands. The referee Jose Antonio Teixeira Vitienes  made a penalty fault an unexisting hand of Oier in the last minutes of the game against Getafe at Alfonso Perez stadium. The "Reds" want to play as they did against Valencia in La Liga and Copa and avoid the relegation posts before the end of the year 2012.

The power of the local stadium EL Sadar is under criticism as Osasuna only got two win matches out of seven against Levante and Rayo. Mendilibar can't use the injured Sisi and Masoud, and also Armenteros, who was also sent off in Getade. Lolo, Annan, Echaide- again-, and Manu are out due to coach's decision.
It is, then, a good opportunity to use the local Roberto Torres instead of the Argentinian Armenteros, tough Mendilibar can also call Lamah, of course.

Probable kickoff:
Osasuna: Andres Fernandez; Damia, Miguel Flaño, Arribas and Nano; Puñal, Raoul Loe, Cejudo, Nino and Lamah; Kike Sola.
Granada CF: Roberto, Juanma Ortiz, Siqueira, Íñigo Lopez, Mainz, Iriney, Mikel Rico, Orellana, Torje, Dani Benitez y El Arabi.
I LEAVE OSASUNA'S LAST VIDEO TO MOTIVATE THE TEAM AND SUPPORTERS WITH AINHOA, LA OREJA DE VAN GOGH'S SINGER.
GORA OSASUNA, AUPA ROJILLOS! MERRY CHRISTMAS FOR EVERYONE!

Merry Christmas' Eve and Christmas Day

Christmas is the main national holiday in the UK, because there are two public holidays in a row. The thing I like best about Christmas is the way that it brings people together. Of course, Christmas is a Christian festival, but it is also a time when people of all religions can make the most of the holidays and the festive spirit. At this time of year, there are office parties, friends getting together for a meal or a drink and families spending time together. The street are alive with people doing their Christmas shopping, buying presents for family and friends (I seem to have left my own Christmas shopping very late as usual!), and most main streets in London and throughout the country have Christmas lights hanging from the lamp posts, which add to the festive atmosphere. The main day of celebration in Britain is 25th December – unlike in many Christian countries, where the main celebration is on 24th December. The 25th December is called Christmas Day, the 24th December is called Christmas Eve (the evening before Christmas) and the 26th December is called Boxing Day, which used to be the traditional day for giving Christmas presents. On 25th December, Christmas church services are usually held in the morning, after which families or friends traditionally cook a feast of roasted meat, often turkey or goose, cooked with stuffing and bacon, roast potatoes and parsnips, carrots and Brussels sprouts. This is followed by Christmas pudding, a boiled or steamed pudding made from fruit and spices, with brandy butter and small sweet mince pies. During the dinner, we pull Christmas crackers, which make a popping sound when we pull them and contain jokes and small gifts, and also colourful paper crowns, which we wear until the end of the meal. After dinner, we sometimes play games or watch films, or just sit around chatting with the family. The giving of Christmas presents is an important ritual, and these are usually exchanged either just before or just after Christmas dinner. MERRY CHRISTMAS! AND A CHRISTMAS' EVE!

Osasuna-Almeria, last game before Christmas

Almeria and Osasuna are playing their second match in a week for the Copa del Rey competition. It's a game with different viewpoints in their supporters, as Osasuna is almost classified after the match last week.

That is the atmosphere in Pamplona as some players are already in their countries, on Christmas holidays. Therefore, there will be changes in the kickoff team. On the other hand, Almeria C.F. is going to do their best at the Reyno de Navarra stadium so they want to be in the next leg of the competition.

Osasuna don't have to take in advance their clasiffication, though their position in the League and the results in their last five games may give confidence to their players and supporters. We are fifth and the UEFA dream is in our minds.

Mendilibar said that he isn't on holidays yet. Let's see! His words are not always seen as wit as expected, but Osasuna supporters want to keep their hopes at Christmas and see another final in May 2012! That is my desire for Olentzero, Father Christmas or the Three Wise Men!

MERRY CHRISTMAS FOR ALL YOU! HAPPY NEW YEAR FOR OSASUNA SUPPORTERS!

Osasuna-Villarreal, the last game of the year

Good morning, Osasunists!
This afternoon Osasuna and Villarreal are playing their last match of the year 2011, before Christmas.

The match starts at 18.00 and the situation of both teams are completely different if we have a back look to the beginning of November. At that time, Osasuna's way of playing was full of doubts and their supporters were very angry with Mendilibar after some comments about some grateful for a hatred team like Athletic de Bilbao.

But now, Osasuna have leaded four consecutive games without losing and they are in UEFA positions. On the other hand, Villarreal could finish this year 2011 in Second Division positions if they lose at EL SADAR.

After the victory in Almeria in the Copa del Rey competition, Mendilibar can't use Sola, Rubén, Marc Bertrán, Jon Echaide or Masoud. But Sergio, Damià, Nekounam and Satrustegui are back to the team.

Garrido, Villarreal coach, could be on the bench for his last time if they do not get any point from Osasuna stadium. There is a saying: "Comer el turrón en Navidad en el banquillo", and that could be his case.

How strange for both teams!
MERRY CHRISTMAS! GORA OSASUNA! AUPA ROJILLOS!

Bank Holidays

Now that we are in a global economical crisis, we are hearing that politics and bussinessmen are thinking of changing the job calendar in Spain. They had a look in the British work system and their Bank holidays. What is a bank holiday? Here there is a free translation of the article in EL PAIS last Friday. Every holiday is on Monday in the United Kingdom. Therefore, their ideal target is to avoid long free days in that country and also a worker can always enjoy the holidays in the weekdays, they never happen on Saturday or Sundays. There are only two exceptions: Good Friday and Holy Monday. Christmas Day and the Boxing Day, on 26th December, only change if they are at weekends. So, if Christmas Day is on Saturday a year, the next two consecutive days are then on Monday and Tuesday. But, if Christmas Day is on Wednesday, the holiday is on Wednesday and Thursday, that means that it is the only chance to have the longest period of holiday of the year ( the Spanish typical "puente" ). Thus, Christmas and Good Friday are the only public holidays ( for everyone ) and the rest of free days for workers are Bank Holidays. That name comes from a decission taken by the Bank of England in 1834. They decided to shorten the holy days from 33 free days to four days ( Good Friday. 1st May, 1st November- Day of All Saints- and Christmas Day ). But the tradition of moving the festivity to a Monday started after a law of Bank Holidays in 1871. Although we may have the feeling of having more free days in Spain than in the UK, the fact is that the figures are similar as the holidays are moved to a Monday instead of at weekends. There are nine Bank Holidays in England and Wales in 2011: Christmas Day, Good Friday, New Year's Day, Holy Monday, 1st May, Boxing Day, Spring and Summer bank holidays- the days of the start of that season ). There is also an extra Bank Holiday to conmemorate the Prince William's wedding. Actually, there will be another extra bank holiday in 2012 to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II kingdom, on 5th June. Besides, the word "holiday" has a singular definition. If you take the law by its word, workers only have the right to take their holidays at Christmas and Good Friday, in spite of the fact that most of them do not work in bank holidays. Anyway, every holiday and free days are regulated in each coompany and any holiday or free day are within the 5,6 weeks of vacation a year. The company has their right to take money of the worker's wages or to cut down the worker's holidays because of the number of Bank Holidays. Grandma needs new dentures To eat the crust on pizza Been taken out by her daughter Because she thought she oughta The kids are eating Snickers Because they're so delicious Then there's sticky fingers And mother loses her knickers Bank holiday comes six times a year Days of enjoyment to which everyone cheers Bank holiday comes with a six pack of beer Then it's back to work A-g-a-i-n Barbecue is cooking Sausages and chicken The patio is buzzing And neighbors they are looking John is down the fun pub Drinking lots of lager Girls and boys are on the game And all the high streets look the same

Football is back for New Year

Happy New Year, dear Osasunists!
Football is back after Christmas and with the New Year an old enemy is back to confront with: Sevilla F.C.
Before I talk about the game, I would like to comment about last football news. Remember the match this evening has been about to be cancelled due to a players strike, as they complain these dates are off in their labour calendar. For first time, I don't know if the last, I support LFP( the employers-bussinessmen ) and I'm against the AFE ( employees-footballers ), as they didn't say a single word in September when the calendar was approved, and if footballers want to support their colleagues as they don't receive their salaries, I suppose there are other ways which may help to solve their situation!
On the other hand, in the ancient spoken English country, that is, England, one of the best League in the world, these days there have been lots of games for the joy of children and parents. In England, there are many games in 10 days (remember they don't celebrate the Three Wise Men Day- the 6th of January ). Everybody is back duty the day after New Year's Day ( Monday 3rd, this year ). Players consider as a duty and joy to play at Christmas.
Spain is different! And Osasuna is playing in Spain, luckily or unfortunately, and in fact today they are playing is the centre of Spain, not the capital as I know, but the very influencing Seville. A wonderful nice city with very special non-trustable people there!Quite gypsies!
Anyway, both teams are suffering this season to fulfill their goals! Sevilla was out of the Champions League very early and they changed coach before Christmas ( Jimenez no se comió el turrón!- no translation!!) and the race for the League was very far for this team too early too, and now everybody knows the championship is either for Barça or the white team from the capital of Spain ( remember my policy ).
Osasuna is starting the year 2011 away from the Reyno, and need to break their record of a year without winning an away game. It may be a good moment this evening against Sevilla F.C. and so Camacho can earn the respect and love he's demanding from us, Osasuna supporters!
Let's see what happens, and who knows?Maybe, the Three Wise Men bring Camacho his desire!!

Gora Osasuna!Aupa Rojillos!

Osasuna-Zaragoza...and Merry Christmas!!!

Good afternoon, dear Osasunists! Today we have the last game of the year 2010 and the last game of the first round of the League.
Luckily or unfortunately, this last game is against a well-known team and the confrontation is usually called "a derby". Today Real Zaragoza is visiting the Reyno de Navarra stadium.
Last year I talked about my links with Zaragoza city and my relatives there! So the word derby is very accurate for most of the citizens in both cities, but the problem is that "globalization" in the teams has devalued this confrontation as there are many "foreigners" in both teams.
The fraternal fight between Osasuna and Zaragoza has always been a good reason to visit the rival's stadium and have a good day out, a short daytrip that unfortunately some years ago they were marked by insults and fights in the streets or stadiums which made some supporters think twice wheter travel or not.
This year the derby is conditioned to both team placement in the League. Osasuna is a strong team in the Reyno, but until last weekend team it was one of the worst teams playing away their stadiums. Camacho's team is still the only????? team which have not won away, and I have been very critical to Osasuna's coach, but I must be sincere and say that when I watch the second half against Valencia F.C., I felt very proud of being an Osasuna fan/supporter and and I appreciate Camacho's job in Osasuna's players'confidence to do their best in any team.
Zaragoza is the opposite situation. They've changed coach, and now there's another well-known and friend person: Javier Aguirre. The Mexican coach is a constant fighter in any of the teams he's been working for and he's a very good motivating coach. Another "for" characteristic of Aguirre is, of course, that he trained Osasuna and Osasuna achieved their best, as we were classified for the Champions League for the first time in history! But now everything is different and the situation in the club of the city of El Pilar ( nobody wants to insult her ) is not as heavenly desired! And Zaragoza supporters are unhappy with their players and even still their new coach!!!Let's what happens this afternoon!
Finally, I want to write some lines to desirre all the best for all of you my unknown but loved readers. This is my last article of football of the year and I wish all you MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR 2011!
GORA OSASUNA!AUPA ROJILLOS!
