Osasuna-Athletic, more than a derby

Good evening, dear Osasunists! Here we are again, a consecutive Monday evening for Osasuna ( but I'm not talking any longer about the useless of matches in the week, as there have been many comments in the news and the papers in the last fortnight ).

Today my article is about the football schools and philosophy from both clubs. I usually listen to some radio stations and football reporters about their admiration to the club from Bilbao ( of course, they never refer to it with the name of the city and in the event they forget, they always apologize for their mistake ). Last week it was in RNE during Sunday matches and they said they admired Athletic for their politics of contracts and the philosophy of playing with home players!!

This is my point: home players? Lezama vs Tajonar ( the names of both team schools ). Lezama is a good school, Tajonar too, but there are some facts to explain. There are few players from Bilbao who have played or play in Osasuna, but it's the opposite at Athletic Club. This season there are 17 Navarrian players between First Division and Second B League in Athletic Club. Meanwhile, there are 20 Navarrians between First Division and Second B league in Osasuna.

I always agree with people from Bilbao and fans of their club that footballers, as any other employees look for their best and search the best contract of their lives, but there are some politics which I will never accept. I won't say that goalkeeper Gorka Iraizoz (Ansoáin)- from Espanyol-, the defender from Liverpool Mikel San José(Villava), Carlos Gurpegui ( Andosilla ), from La Txantrea or Ion Velez ( Tafalla ) from Lezama; the rest were taken from Osasuna somehow: midfielders Pablo Orbaiz (Elcano), Javi Martínez (Ayegui), and Iñaki Muñoz (Pamplona). Besides, the last best young player from Lezama, born in Navarra and their friend club Iker Muniain ( 22 matches with the first team now ) and Iñigo Pérez too.

There are also other players who weren't born in Navarre ( Fernando Llorente was born in Pamplona, but he always lived in Logroño ), but there were others who aren't from Pamplona and played in Osasuna ( that second rule Athletic managers follow: people who are connected to the region somehow: David López and Koikili are two good examples ).

Their reasons are different in many cases to leave Pamplona or Osasuna, but there are many open wounds in Osasuna hearts. The problem is that it can be even worse, as there are more young players from Navarra in Lezama: defenders Borka Ekiza (Pamplona, 1988) and Mikel Santamaría (Pamplona, 1987), midfielders Javier Eraso (Pamplona, 1990), Adrien Goñi (Pamplona, 1988, debuted last season ) and Iván Miñes (Tudela, 1990); the forwards Arkaitz Ruiz (Pamplona, 1989), Julen Goñi (Pamplona, 1989) and Ismael López(Pamplona, 1990, who left Tajonar at a very young age). Adrien Goñi, Iñigo Pérez and Ismael are three out of five most used players in Second B team.

Anyway, I already talked about the rivalry and brotherhood of both teams, so that won't be any argument now, but any match or confrontation between Athletic and Osasuna make supporters nervous and envious. This season their evolution has been different, from a good start in Osasuna to avoid relegation as always; and from a bad start in Bilbao and Europe aspirations at the end of the League. It's easier for us to hurt Athletic supporters with a good result this evening than the opposite. Players from Bilbao don't get a victory away since last December 13th, in Zaragoza ( 1-2 ).

Possible kickoff teams: ( Navarrians in black )
Osasuna: Ricardo; Azpilicueta, M. Flaño, Sergio, Monreal; Ruper, Vadocz; Juanfran, Masoud, Camuñas; Pandiani.
Athletic de Bilbao: Iraizoz; Ustaritz, S. Jose, Amorebieta, Koikili; D. Lopez, J. Martinez, Orbaiz, Gabilondo; Llorente, Toquero.

AUPA ROJILLOS! GORA OSASUNA!
