The history of Saint Valentine. Valentin was a priest who married the soldiers with their girlfriend in secret because the King order that the soldiers musn´t married so in the war they would have no dependents. But Valentin was discovered and he died. So this day is in Honour of this man.

 Valentine was a priest , around the third century in Rome exercised . Reagan Emperor Claudius II , who decided to ban the celebration of marriages for young people, because in his opinion the single soldiers without families were better because they had fewer ties .

The priest felt that the decree was unfair and challenged the Emperor . Held in secret marriages for young lovers (hence it has become popular that Valentine is the patron saint of lovers ) . The Emperor Claudius found out and as Valentine enjoyed great prestige in Rome , the emperor summoned him to the palace. Valentine took that occasion to proselytize Christianity. Although he showed interest , the army and the governor of Rome, called Calpurnius , persuaded him to persuade her into a top Claudius II .

The Emperor Claudius then ordered it to be imprisoned Day. Then the Asterius official , imprison manager , wanted to ridicule and test Valentin . He challenged the view that devolviese a daughter , named Julia , who was born blind. Valentine agreed and , on behalf of the Lord restored his sight .

This convulsed Asterius and his family, who converted to Christianity . Anyway, Valentine continued weak prisoner and eventually Emperor Claudius ordered that he be martyred and executed on 14 February 270. Julia Young , grateful to the saint, planted an almond tree pink flowers by her grave . Hence, the almond is a symbol of lasting love and friendship.

He establish that the young men can't married with anyone because he was better soldier when they are alone. This priest was against, so he decide to marry all the cuples on the quiet. Claudio learned this and executed him. Valentin died the 14th February 270, so since this day, we celebrate San Valentin in his honor.

SAINT VALENTINE´S HISTORY Flowers, candy, red hearts and romance. That's what Valentine's day is all about, right? Well, maybe not. The origin of this holiday for the expression of love really isn't romantic at all -- at least not in the traditional sense. Father Frank O'Gara of Whitefriars Street Church in Dublin, Ireland, tells the real story of the man behind the holiday -- St. Valentine. "He was a Roman Priest at a time when there was an emperor called Claudias who persecuted the church at that particular time," Father O'Gara explains. " He also had an edict that prohibited the marriage of young people. This was based on the hypothesis that unmarried soldiers fought better than married soldiers because married soldiers might be afraid of what might happen to them or their wives or families if they died." "I think we must bear in mind that it was a very permissive society in which Valentine lived," says Father O'Gara. "Polygamy would have been much more popular than just one woman and one man living together. And yet some of them seemed to be attracted to Christian faith. But obviously the church thought that marriage was very sacred between one man and one woman for their life and that it was to be encouraged. And so it immediately presented the problem to the Christian church of what to do about this." "The idea of encouraging them to marry within the Christian church was what Valentine was about. And he secretly married them because of the edict." Valentine was eventually caught, imprisoned and tortured for performing marriage ceremonies against command of Emperor Claudius the second. There are legends surrounding Valentine's actions while in prison. "One of the men who was to judge him in line with the Roman law at the time was a man called Asterius, whose daughter was blind. He was supposed to have prayed with and healed the young girl with such astonishing effect that Asterius himself became Christian as a result." In the year 269 AD, Valentine was sentenced to a three part execution of a beating, stoning, and finally decapitation all because of his stand for Christian marriage. The story goes that the last words he wrote were in a note to Asterius' daughter. He inspired today's romantic missives by signing it, "from your Valentine." "What Valentine means to me as a priest," explains Father O'Gara, "is that there comes a time where you have to lay your life upon the line for what you believe. And with the power of the Holy Spirit we can do that -- even to the point of death." Valentine's martyrdom has not gone unnoticed by the general public. In fact, Whitefriars Street Church is one of three churches that claim to house the remains of Valentine. Today, many people make the pilgrimage to the church to honor the courage and memory of this Christian saint. "Valentine has come to be known as the patron saint of lovers. Before you enter into a Christian marriage you want some sense of God in your life -- some great need of God in your life. And we know, particularly in the modern world, many people are meeting God through his Son, Jesus Christ." "If Valentine were here today, he would say to married couples that there comes a time where you're going to have to suffer. It's not going to be easy to maintain your commitment and your vows in marriage. Don't be surprised if the 'gushing' love that you have for someone changes to something less "gushing" but maybe much more mature. And the question is, is that young person ready for that?" "So on the day of the marriage they have to take that into context," Father O'Gara says. "Love -- human love and sexuality is wonderful, and blessed by God -- but also the shadow of the cross. That's what Valentine means to me.

Elche-Osasuna, let's fall in love!

 
Good morning, dear Osasunists!Elche and Osasuna are celebrating this special day for lovers with a new match in La Liga and they are going to play an intense nervous game to avoid relegation for next season.

Fran Escribá, Elche's coach is aware of the complexity of the confrontation as Osasuna is a hard team to play as a visitor and Osasuna is very comfortable away from El Sadar. Besides, Osasuna players are eager to get more points and broaden their gap with the relegation posts. They won last game in El Sadar against Getafe ( 2-0 ) and they seem to have forgotten their defeats against Athletic (1-5) and Villarreal (3-1).

When Osasuna players are nervous, anxious or don't move the ball from one side to other, they suffer with their rivals. It is true that as visitors Osasuna won against Málaga (0-1), Valladolid (0-1) and Betis (1-2), and got a point against Celta (1-1) and Granada (0-0).

On the other hand, Elche have won four matches at their stadium: Espanyol (2-1), Valencia (2-1), Rayo Vallecano (2-0) and Almería (1-0), but they got a draw three times and lost five matches. Besides, as it happened last week against Getafe, it is very important to bear in mind the goalaverage and the first round game. Now Osasuna is ahead Getafe as Osasuna lost 2-1 in Madrid, but they won 2-0 at El Sadar. Therefore, as Osasuna won in Pamplona 2-1 against Elche, it would be great to get a point or even to win in the Mediterranean field.

Javi Gracia, Osasuna's coach, can't use De las Cuevas and Puñal, as they got injured and it seems that Torres and Lolo will substitute them.

29th Febraury, Ladies Privilege in Ireland and Leap Year

If you take a look at your calendar you'll notice that the days of February run to 29 this year. That's because of course 2012 is a leap year and according to Irish tradition February 29th is the day when women may propose to men. This is known as ‘Ladies Privilege' and the tradition in Ireland has its origins in the legends of Ireland's Saints; St Bridget and St Patrick, after Bridget urged Patrick to allow women the right to propose. Patrick refused but later agreed to allow Ladies Privilege once every seven years, Bridget bartered him down to four and the tradition was established. Here it is the story! In the 5th century St Bridget from Ireland complained to St Patrick about women having to wait for the men to propose. So according to legend St Patrick replied that on the 29th February women can propose to the man of her choice. The right for women to propose on this date goes back many hundreds of years to when the leap year day had no recognition in English law so had no legal status. People assumed that tradition would also have no status on that day. It was also reasoned that the leap year was to fix a problem with the calendar so could be used to fix an old and unjust custom that only let men propose marriage. Bear in mind that Ireland is an ultra catholic country, and so it was in 5th century!! If your planning on popping the question or taking a romantic vacation in Ireland, what better place to start than Dublin. Ireland's capital city has charm, character and romantic landmarks such as Ha'penny Bridge, Croke Park and the burial place of St Valentine. It is a little known Dublin fact that in 1836, the relics of St Valentine were brought to Dublin and are kept in the Shrine of St Valentine at the Whitefriar Street Carmelite Church, a short walk from St Stephen's Green. What better place to be this St Valentine's Day? So ladies, if you're tired of waiting to here the question, why not pop it yourself and take advantage of ladies privilege this year with a trip to some of the romantic places in Ireland? And gentlemen - remember if you were to get hitched on February 29th you only have to remember your anniversary once every four years!

Spanish couples prefer kisses on our lips, on our neck, with strawberry flavour and if possible in the rain or on the beach, according to a survey made on Saint Valentin Day, a date that thousand couples will celebrate with romantic dinners and gifts.

The survey, made by the publisher of Romantic novels Harlequin Iberica, interviewed 4,000 people in 18 countries, and it also says that more than half Spanish men are satisfied with their way of kissing; one of the highest percentage of the survey.

The self-content in this field is, however, overcome by Italians ( 72% are happy with their way of kissing ), Norwegians ( 68% ) and Mexicans ( 57% ).

The survey reflects something else than our preferences about kisses. It also talks about the war of sex, the differences between men and women in most countries. In that way, men prefer natural lips, especially the sensual and a bit thick, and women like strong and thin ones.
Besides in the mouth, the key answer for the question “Where do you prefer to be kissed on?” is our neck, with an average of 44.8% in the survey, though that percentage goes up to 48% among women ( 27% among men ) in Spain. In the rest, it’s shocking those 29% of Finnish people who answered they like to be kissed on their navel.

When they were questioned for the taste of the kisses, the likes seem to match with some boleros or other romantic sounds and so strawberry, champagne and mint are the most preferred flavours in most of the countries.

The place is not essential either for 53% people questioned provided that you kiss the right person. However, the most romantic places to kiss, for Spaniards, are “in the rain”, as their first choice, and “on the beach”, their second one.
Anyway, millions of kisses will be given away tomorrow, St. Valentin’s Day, a priest who was born in Rome in mid IIIth century and who was martyred after it was revealed he married couples in secret.
Apart from the kisses, several men will choose to take out their couple for a meal in those restaurants which make special offers for lovers. About gifts, the offers are a lot, but the traditional chocolate is the star, according to the Cacao and Chocolate Institute.

Saint Valentine for Osasuna supporters

Last year I dedicated my daily article to talk about the meaning of Saint Valentine for lovers, but that was another date, and today is Sunday and match day!

Osasuna is playing away against Sevilla F.C. and we are feeling like lovers. I'm explaining. Osasuna have won the last four games consecutively and they are about to get a new record in history if they win this evening to Sevilla F.C. That is the most positive aspect about our team, and as I have said many times in the last days Osasuna players have nothing to envy from big teams like the team from the Nervion city.

On the other hand, we shouldn't forget that one month ago we were thinking of Osasuna was about to reach their dream: a final in Copa del Rey. The players disappointed us, their fans, as the result in Santander was a defeat, but a possible victory in the Reyno could have changed the final score easily. However, the defeat in Pamplona against Racing de Santander was clear and Osasuna played very badly. It was hard for us to get up the following day and see our dream was over.

Therefore, that's how I feel with my "girlfriend" Osasuna. This week I've been asked in a classroom if I support Barça or Real Madrid. I answered " Osasuna, no other team", and pressed by students I compared Osasuna to a girlfriend, who you try to live with forever. But, it's true that daily routine is difficult for lovers, and one may disappoint each other somehow. We have great expectations on people we love, but days like today, on Saint Valentine Day, we hope our loved one will give you a present, not very expensive, but a loving gift.

Today we are visiting Sevilla F.C. and history, the past comes back. Games between Osasuna and Sevilla are very tense and aggresive. It is said that each match is different but...who knows? What nobody can deny is that Sevilla F.C. have reached what Osasuna supporters desired last month: the final in Copa del Rey. It has been a hard leg against Getafe and that could be positive for Osasuna, that should play their best to win Sevilla F.C. It will depend on Osasuna players' motivation, first, and , perhaps, on the kickoff team Sevilla F.C. and their coach, Jimenez, decides to play with:
