Celta-Osasuna, MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Good afternoon, dear Osasunists! Today is a hopeful expectating day for everybody in Spain, as it is the Christmas National Lotery Day and many people are willing to be lucky and become millionaire in a crisis time. But for us, the luck would be to finish the year out of the relegation posts. That is the target for Celta de Vigo and Osasuna, which confront their strenght at Balaidos stadium this evening. Both teams may finish this year with different sensations and evaluation. Lately, the team from Vigo has suffered from two defeats, one against Valladolid (3-0) in Liga and Athletic (4-0) in Copa. On the other hand, Osasuna players are enthusiastic and eager to add three exciting points to the classification and go on holidays out of the relegation posts. Osasuna has improved their game after getting a point against powerful Real Madrid, and eliminating Malaga in La Copa that gives another opportunity to confront Ancelotti's team at El Sadar. Celta's coach, Luis Enrique, is under suspiction and about to be fired if the result is negative this evening. Supporters and chairmen are doubtful with their game and the shameful defeat at San Mames is in their memories. It is also true that Celta is a firm rival at their stadium and they won their three last consecutive games at Balaidos. Osasuna's coach, Javi Gracia, who has been one of the best decisions of the chairmen in the club this year, will try to go on their lately winning streak against a direct rival to avoid relegation at the end of the season. So far, Celta are one point ahead in the classification, but I hope it will be the opposite at the end of the match this evening. The mood is high among the Navarrians after the result at El Sadar against Real Madrid (2-2) in the last game played in La Liga, but with some doubts after the draw (1-1) to eliminate Malaga, at El Sadar too. There are better expectations than the 14 points obtained in the last 17 games in La Liga. The figures and statistics may show hope for Osasuna as the results at Balaidos for the home team are quite negative with similar teams as Osasuna: Celta only won against Almería (3-1), got three draws Español (2-2), Granada (1-1) and Villarreal (0-0), but lost four games with direct rivals and the powerful Barça: Elche (0-1), Levante (0-1), Barcelona (0-3) and Rayo Vallecano (0-2). Besides, Osasuna won twice this year away from El Sadar: Málaga (0-1) and Valladolid (0-1), but we have lost the rest of visitor games against: Athletic (2-0), Getafe (2-1), Atlético de Madrid (2-1), Sevilla (2-1), Real Sociedad (5-0) and Valencia (3-0). Probable kickoff teams: Celta: Yoel; Jonny, Cabral, Fontás, Aurtenetxe; Oubiña, Alex López, Augusto Fernández; Nolito, Rafinha, Santi Mina. Osasuna: Andrés Fernández, Marc Bertrán, Loties, Flaño, Damiá; Puñal, Lolo; Cejudo, Torres, Armenteros, Oriol Riera. GORA OSASUNA! AUPA ROJILLOS! MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM PAMPLONA RED SALESIANS AND SALESIANOS PAMPLONA STUDENTS!

New year in Portugal by Diego Cameirao

      New Year in Portugal

In Portugal there are a lot of celebrations, and all different. The symbol of that celebration here is the fire.

On Christmas Eve there are bonfires. If the tree trunk is big and the incineration is hard-wearing, it means a very good beginning year. At afternoon, families join to dinner. At dinner, they eat turkey, octopus and codfish.
On Christmas, at 25th of December, there are family gatherings, and Christmas Father or as it is called here `Pai Natal´ brings presents for children that behave good during the year.
On New Year´s Eve, also, at dinner, families eat the same at the Christmas Eve. At 12 pm, they eat twelve raisins, while they burn a tree trunk.
Other habits are on Christmas Eve, people go to the `Misa del gallo´ and kiss the Jesus´ feet.
In Madeira `Lapinha´ is the Queen of the celebration. It is a type of `Belén´.
On 19th, the orchestra Gulbenkian play music like Mozart and Bach.
Finally, in all the sites of Portugal, you can celebrate some different festivities where you can´t bore.
In that celebration, you can learn a lot of traditions and you have a lot of fun.

Runover at Christmas by Beñat

One Saturday afternoon,I was going with my dad in the car when a very serious accident happened. My dad and  I were very scared because the accident was in front of us.

One man who was driving a red car very fast ran over an old man in the street. When the accident happened, the man was jogging. There were many people watching the accident, and they tried to help.

One person called the 112 emergency to explain the situation.

As the ambulance arrived, two people left the area. The victim was bleeding on his head, and  the man went to help him. The people turned away because the doctor of the rescue team were crying out to  GO TO YOURS HOUSES AND JOBS!!!!.

When the DYA volunteers pulled the man in the ambulance, they immediatly left to the hospital.

Finally, the man died in the hospital due to the injuries from the runover. The driver is missing. The man died on 26/12/2012.

Chrismas accident by Ibai

It was a Sunday night, we were going to my village with my parents and my granparents.

In the middle of the road there was an accident, my father stopped the car, and we ran to rescue those people.

When I reached the car, there was a lot of blood, and only one person in the car. I went into the car and I asked him: "¿How are you?" Then this person answered me saying " I broke my leg, but I´m okey" After this I took him and I phoned the 112.

One week later, he found me, he told me that he was fine, that he put one bandage on his leg and it was getting over.

Suddenly, the car crashed with another car, because there was a lot of ice on the road. My dad could not start the power of the car again.

We were so scared , fortunately, we all were safe. My mother phoned 112 , my father went to the other car, the people who were on this car were fine, but my brother broke his wrist.

Finally, we all went back home with the help of the police and ther rescue team.

Luckily I only twisted my ankle , my friend helped to go home, then I put some cream on it. I didn't have to go to the school either, but I had to rest.

What about you ?

Diego Cameirao´s holiday

I was  with my parents and my brother in the car. We were going to Portugal.

My father slept and crashed into the wall and a large layer of snow coated the whole car with us in it.  I broke my leg. We didn't know how to get out of car. We were very frightened. My father couldn´t start the car. We spent all night in the car.

The next morning we  managed to start the car. But, the helicopter spent several hours until the rescue team managed to get the car there. After that, we decided to go to the nearest hospital. It was in Valladolid. It took us several hours.

We were very scared. The doctor told me that I had to rest the leg for two months. Finally, we decided to go home and forget about all the accident.

New Year in Puente La Reina

On 31 December, I was very nervous because I was going to spend New Year's Eve with my little cousins who I have not seen for eight years. I got up very early in the morning and got dressed to go to Puente la Reina, which is twenty minutes by car from Pamplona. There my uncles waited for me: Ana, Oscar, Idoia and Santi. We arrived at half past eight, because we had to make fritos and set the table. Meanwhile I went with my cousins to play in the street. Then, at ten my older cousins and my other uncles, Albert and Espe, came. Celebrating the year 2012 at my cousin Javier Amaia and so we taught their rooms. They were very nice and well decorated with lots of toys. Later we ate, and at midnight we all went to watch TV and say goodbye to the old year to welcome a new one. We played football with my cousins on the street and also played chasing. And at two o'clock in the morning I told my mother to leave the car there and go, because it was dangerous and did not want to have an accident, so my aunt let us stay at her house to sleep. I slept with Amaia and, although she gets me mad, that New Year's Eve could not stop kissing me, because I was excited to sleep with her older cousin. And the next day, we went to Pamplona to celebrate three new years with my grandmother. By Cristina Vela

An accident at my granmother's

A few days before Christmas I had an accident, not very serious. I was at my grandmother's, as she was putting the Christmas decorations on the tree. I was helping her with my cousin. Suddenly one leg of the tree broke and fell on my foot and it bent making a strange noise. My grandmother thought it was nothing but my aunt took me to hospital. In the hospital they told me I had a sprained ankle. I put a bag of ice on it and waited for the results. In 15 minutes I returned to my grandmother's house to recover. It still hurts but I'm OK. Happy New Year for everyone and be careful with the heights and objects!!!!

Neven's Christmas story

Last christmas my family and I went to celebrate at our friend's house. We had much fun together. First we prepared some food, we bought some drinks and then invited more friends.

About 10:00p.m. we started to eat and celebrate while talking to each other. At about 11:55p.m we all stood up and listened to the Bulgarian president talk about the New Year. And finally at 12:00p.m. we started drinking champaign and throwing some firecrackers.

Then we went out to watch the people's costumes and laugh a little with them. In the morning my family and I went back home and rested from all the noise. It was a very good last day of the year.

Scary Christmas holidays

It was Christmas Day and John was enjoying his Christmas gifts at the time when the earth shook. His parents went to the window to see what was happening amd they saw it was an earthquake.

Instantly John and his parents left the house and went away as far as possible so that they would not have any problem. Suddenly, they realized that John was not there. His father was running home to see if he was there, but he didn't look for all possible sites.

Finally, John's father had a look in the hut over a small tree that was about to break. John told his father that he was afraid and he wanted everything to be over. They both left the tree house before it collapsed.

In the end, when everywhere was safe, they went to his grandparents' home in the city and told them what happened.

The sad ghost

My story is this:

THE SAD GHOST :

My name is Sam, and I tell you my Christmas story:

My parents bought a haunted house in the south of Ireland.

One day, at night I was on my bed sleeping when I saw an old ghost.

He was standing next to the window. He wasn´t very scary because he was sad.

I spoke to him, but he didn´t speak to me .

Five minits later he disappeared across the window and I didn´t see him again.

The next day I walked to the library, because I love reading.

In the library I took one book about the story of a house in the south of Ireland.

Oh!!! , this is the house from my parents, the famous house that my dad told me when we were travelling in the car.

Many years ago a man lived in our house. His name was Sir Simu Duck.
Hi, his wife and his daughters died in an arson in the house when they were sleeping.

I usually see the sad, old ghost, but I'm never frightened. I know that he is looking for his family.

A story at Boxing Day

The Tsunami at Boxing Day, adapted from a story of Daniella de la Harpe, 2004

It all happened so fast. One second he was standing right next to me; and the next, he was gone. Being taken away like a simple dead leaf. There was nothing I could do to help him. There was nothing anyone could do. We were all the same boat, so to speak.

Everyone around me was shouting or crying. I still struggle to understand why he would save me, when he knew that he would have to sacrifice his life for it.

That’s all I could think about, sitting in the exact spot where my house had been, precisely 5 years ago. The image of my father, hanging tight to the branch of the low palm tree. I only managed to open my eyes for a second before the big wave took me away. And then I collided with his hand and for a short second, I felt safe, as if nothing could ever hurt me again. I was in my father’s arms, and he would never let anything harm me. He was my best friend, and I was with him; safe. He looked sadly into my eyes, deeper than ever. I couldn't understand the look on his face. Why did he look so sad, so troubled, when we were going to be fine? That’s when it happened.

All the noise of people shouting, the noise from the wild water, everything, seemed to disappear in a short second, into a deadly silence. I kept my eyes on my father. I love you. Then his eyes left mine, and he was looking right over my head. I didn’t need to turn to see what was coming. It was painted so clearly in his eyes. The wave. The mother of all waves. Coming this way. He looked back down into my eyes. And then I saw his plans.

No, dad! Don’t do this! We can both survive it! Dad! But he wasn’t listening anymore. He had made up his mind. Hold on. Don’t go. He took my hand and he wrapped my arms around the branch of the tree. I looked up at him. Stay safe. And with a last, I screamed a silent scream after him, but in just a matter of seconds, he was gone.

I was shocked, and could feel my arms slipping. That’s when it hit me, right in the middle of the head. I am so thankful that it chose to hit me there first, because it seemed to send a message to my brain, telling me to keep tight, because the force of this wave was enough to knock down an entire building. It hit me again, this time right in the middle of my back. I immediately lost feeling in the whole bottom half of my body, and my legs were being pushed around
mercilessly by the water. My arms were burning. With every second I felt weaker, weaker. But every time I felt like I was going to give in. Hold on. Don’t let go.

It seemed ages before the rush of water calmed down. By now my hearing had been restored, and the shouts of help were replaced with cries of sorrow. People shouting out to their families, searching for their parents, relatives and children. I stayed right where I was. I had nobody left. It was just me, me and this tree. I gave in. I cried until I was sore, and then I let go off my tree.

By now the tsunami had reduced to a simple lake with a light current. It pushed me down stream until I could stand. I sat down when I reached a small hill, and watched the people below me. Such destruction; such pain. Nothing like this had ever happened before. Not here. Not to the loving, carefree people of my village. I sat there until the sun went down, but the cries never faded. The moon rose, and the cries kept coming. Day broke, and the cries still came. For four days I sat on my hill and listened. Listened to their pain; listened to their suffering. And then they came.

They came with helicopters, buses and trucks. They came with doctors, food and shelter. But I didn’t need any of it. I sat on my hill and watched the people grabbing at the sacks of food and then running off to join their families. If they had been lucky enough to have found their families. So many people had lost loved ones. Myself included. All my life, for as long as I could remember, it had been just me and my dad. And now, it was just me. So I sat, and I waited. I'm not quite sure what I was waiting for, but I would know when it came.

A few days later, I walked down to the bottom of my hill. Below me, I could only see dirty white rectangles, all over the ground. Strange, I thought. I went down to investigate - slowly; Then, I realized, I saw that they were not just white rectangles. They were sacks filled with the bodies of the dead. I wondered around, searching for that familiar face I knew so well. But I was unsuccessful, as were many. It did not matter. I walked back up to my hill and slept.

And now, here I stand. Where my house once was, before the wave stole it from me. Now, it is just hard soil under my feet. And just over to the left, I can see the only tangible thing my father left me. The palm tree that saved my life. My tree. Although 5 years have passed, I still think about him every day. The first thing I think in the morning, and the last thing I think before I sleep.

All my friends told me that coming back here would do nothing but bring back terrible memories, but every single one of instincts told me I needed to be here. I had come back every year, on the exact day of the tsunami: On Boxing Day. And I will continue to come here, every single Boxing Day, until I return to my father.
